Dear all,
we plan to introduce DOORS in or company for requirements management. I have used a previous version already in another company as a normal user, and it worked fine for me. I could use it right away, without much learning effort. But there were of course specialists in the background who prepared and managed the repository , users, scripts etc.
I want to ask you if you could share your experience here for new users, to give an idea what effort is needed at the beginning to set all up, what effort is needed for daily maintenance etc.
It would be very interesting for me, especially for the planning of time and resources.

If you have not ever set up a DOORS environment, I highly suggest you engage some real expertise to do this properly and efficiently. It is easy to install and start using but to get the proper state for multi-user, configuring specific views and complex attributes or tracing strategies, you need the type of help that will get this done based on best practices and lots of previous experience.
There are several companies who can help you do this besides IBM Rational services and are likely less expensive, but paying for this type of mentoring and knowledge transfer is not cheap. Be sure you ask for references from any company you inquire with - many follow this forum, like our company, who can provide this type of service.
Without the right start, you can find yourself in a hole quickly and wasting lots of time and resources.

thanks both of you for your suggestions. I see, there will be more than reading manuals. I was planning to take some courses, like IBMs base camp and DXL course, but now I understand that it is good to have some coaching onsite. I am in Germany, I will check what I can find here.

Being in Germany, you have one the best DOORS resource teams in the world, from the IBM Rational svcs group. I have worked with them personally in the past and they know how to do this right and not be engaged for months using a quickstart method in a few weeks.
